Every order leaves with the documentation that proves the material is what was ordered. Because Mejor Steel works through partner mills, quality control happens in three places: at the mill during production, at the laboratory that issues the certificate, and — when you ask for it — in front of your own inspector before shipment.
What we verify on every order
- Dimensions and tolerances — outside diameter, wall thickness, length, straightness and end finish against the specification
- Chemical composition — carbon, manganese, silicon and the residuals the standard limits, from the cast analysis
- Mechanical properties — tensile strength, yield strength and elongation, from the tests the standard requires
- Delivery condition — heat treatment state (as-rolled, normalized, quenched and tempered, thermomechanical) where the grade depends on it
Inspection and testing
- 100% ultrasonic testing (UT) — of the weld seam on welded pipe, of the body on seamless
- Radiographic testing (RT) — on request
- Hydrostatic pressure test — every length, to the pressure the specification requires
- Eddy current testing — for surface and near-surface defects
- Chemical composition analysis
- Tensile, yield and elongation testing
- Impact (Charpy) testing — where the grade or delivery condition requires it
- Third-party inspection (SGS, BV, TUV) — on request, at the mill or before shipment

What is inspected, against what, and how it is released
The same list, read the way an inspector reads it: each item has a standard that says how it is done, a criterion that says what passes, and a document that records the result.
| Inspection item | Per standard | What “pass” means | Recorded on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chemical composition | API 5L, API 5CT, ASTM A106 / A53 / A333 / A335 / A312, as ordered | Cast analysis within the limits the grade sets | Mill test certificate |
| Tensile, yield, elongation | The tensile test in the product standard | Meets the grade minimums | Mill test certificate |
| Hardness | NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour service, or per the order | At or below the specified HRC / HV limit | Mill test certificate or test report |
| Hydrostatic test | The hydrotest clause in the product standard | Holds the test pressure without leaking | Mill test certificate |
| Ultrasonic testing (UT) | Weld seam on welded pipe; body on seamless, where specified | No indications above the reference level | UT report |
| Radiographic testing (RT) | On request | Meets the acceptance criteria in the specification | RT report |
| Eddy current testing | Surface and near-surface defects | No reportable indications | Test report |
| Impact (Charpy) testing | Where the grade or delivery condition requires it | Meets the minimum absorbed energy at temperature | Mill test certificate |
| PMI / XRF | Alloy and stainless fittings and flanges | Measured chemistry matches the grade | Mill test certificate |
| Dimensional | OD, wall, length, straightness, end finish | Within the tolerances the standard allows | Inspection record / packing list |
| Coating (DFT, holiday) | Coated pipe, per the coating specification | DFT within range; no holidays | Coating report |
The documentation that travels with the material
- Mill Test Certificate (EN 10204 3.1) — issued by the mill’s own inspection department, independent of production, showing the heat number, the chemical analysis and the mechanical results
- EN 10204 3.2 — the same certificate countersigned by an independent third-party inspector you nominate, typically SGS, BV or TUV
- Heat number traceability — the heat number follows the steel from billet or coil through to the finished pipe, and is printed on the pipe body when required
Third-party inspection
You can witness testing yourself or send an inspection agency. Tell us the dates and the inspection scope, and we arrange it with the mill while your order is in production. Inspectors are welcome at the mill.
Frequently asked questions
Do you test every order?
Every order is released with a mill test certificate showing the heat number, the chemical composition and the mechanical results. Non-destructive examination and hydrostatic testing are carried out to the level the specification requires.
What is the difference between EN 10204 3.1 and 3.2?
Both are inspection certificates based on specific testing of the products supplied. A 3.1 is issued by the mill’s inspection department. A 3.2 carries the additional countersignature of an independent third party. Specify which one you need at the order stage.
Can I send my own inspector?
Yes. You or an agency you appoint can witness testing at the mill and before packing. Send the dates and the inspection scope and we will arrange it.
Which testing does an API 5L PSL2 order include?
PSL2 requires mandatory chemistry limits, non-destructive examination of the weld seam and body, a hydrostatic test, and impact testing where the delivery condition calls for it.
