ASTM A182 covers forged or rolled alloy and stainless steel pipe fittings — the grades written F304, F304L, F316 and F316L. It is the specification behind socket weld fittings, threaded fittings and branch outlets to ASME B16.11 and MSS SP-97, not the specification for the pipe itself.

Minimum values to ASTM A182. The grade has to match the pipe it is welded to, and a PMI check is normally required on alloy and stainless orders.
A182 is not A312 and not A403

The prefix is the quickest way to tell them apart: TP is pipe, WP is a wrought butt weld fitting, F is a forged fitting. Quoting a socket weld fitting to A312 is a specification error even when the chemistry looks the same.
What to state on an A182 enquiry
Product, size, class (3000 or 6000), end type, grade (F304, F304L, F316 or F316L), quantity and whether PMI and EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 are required.
