Bangladesh imports most of the seamless line pipe, casing and fittings it uses in gas pipelines, power plants, shipbuilding and construction. Chittagong is the main discharge port, and the order clears against the documents you put together with it. This page is the short version: what is ordered, how it is usually traded, and what has to agree before the shipment leaves.
Mejor Steel is the export agent for the mills that make your material: one contract, one delivery date, and the mill named on the quotation. How we supply
We reply within one business day, Monday to Friday 09:00-18:00 CST. Or write to info@mejorsteel.com / WhatsApp.
What Bangladeshi buyers order from China
- API 5L line pipe, seamless and welded, for gas and water pipelines and for piling in construction
- OCTG casing and tubing for the gas fields
- butt-weld and socket-weld fittings and flanges for the piping systems
A lot of the pipe made locally in Bangladesh is galvanised or structural; the seamless line pipe and the OCTG are mostly imported. That is the part of the order where the specification, not the price, is what gets a quotation written on the first pass.
Trade terms, and the one thing buyers get wrong
CIF Chittagong is the usual way these orders are written, because it puts the freight to one named discharge point on the seller. The thing that most often sends an enquiry back is the size on its own: an outside diameter without the wall or schedule, or a grade without the standard, does not tell the mill what to roll. Name the standard, the size and the wall, and the quotation can be written without a second round.
Who does what at the Bangladeshi end
Duty, valuation, HS classification and any local clearance or standards checks sit with the importer and its broker in Bangladesh. We hold the specification, the contract, the delivery date and the shipping documents, and we state the classification for the goods as supplied. If a ruling or a local requirement applies to your import, it takes precedence over the codes on our invoice.
The documents have to agree with each other
The invoice, the packing list, the mill test certificate and the certificate of origin have to say the same thing: the same product name, the same material and grade, the same standard and the same size. When they do not, the shipment waits at the port while the broker works out which document is right.
What to send with the enquiry
- Standard and grade — API 5L, API 5CT, ASTM A106, ASME B16.9, and so on
- Outside diameter and wall thickness, or nominal size and schedule
- Quantity, and the destination port (usually Chittagong)
- The Incoterm you want to be quoted against
Frequently asked questions
Should we ask for FOB or CIF?
If you already have a forwarder, FOB works; if you want the freight handled to Chittagong on one price, CIF is cleaner. State it on the enquiry either way, because the price is not the same.
Can you clear Bangladeshi customs for us?
No. Clearance, duty and any local standards checks are the importer’s side; we supply the commercial documents and the mill test certificate that the broker files against.
Which HS code applies?
Seamless line pipe is 7304, welded line pipe is 7305 or 7306 by outside diameter, fittings and flanges are 7307. The full split is on the HS codes page.
